Description
Hyaluronic acid (HA) or hyaluronan is a high molecular mass polysaccharide composed of repeating dimeric units of glucuronic acid and N-acetyl glucosamine. It is abundant in the skin, connective tissue and extracellular matrix. HA is essential for tissue hydration and in increasing the permeability of tissue to fluids. HA is also used as a drug delivery agent for various routes of administration, including ophthalmic, nasal, pulmonary, parenteral and topical. HA-biotin is a conjugate made by covalently linking HA to biotin molecules. HA-biotin can be used as a specific probe to detect and purify HA-binding proteins (hyaladherins) and HA-receptors in tissues and cells.
