RT-qPCR analysis of total RNA isolated from sputum using the Quick-DNA/RNA Viral MagBead Kit. Positive control sample was spiked with a non-infectious in vitro COVID-19 synthetic RNA. Negative control sample was not spiked with in vitro RNA. Samples were tested using primers targeting the human RNase P gene (“RNase P”, amplification control) or primers 2019 nCoV_N3 (CV-3).

Compatible with Nasopharyngeal swabs, Oropharyngeal swabs (e.g. throat swabs), sputum, samples collected into DNA/RNA Shield, samples collected in universal transport medium (UTM) or similar, and more.
Kit contains DNA/RNA Shield reagent demonstrated to inactivate the MERS-coronavirus, parvovirus, HIV, HSV-1 and HSV-2, and other pathogens.

Are your products FDA-cleared?
Zymo Research’s products are considered for research use only.
Because the virus (SARS-CoV-2) causing COVID-19 is new, there are no FDA-cleared or approved tests to diagnose or detect it. However, during public health emergencies the FDA is able to issue Emergency Use Authorizations (EUAs) which allows test manufacturers to distribute potentially life-saving technologies prior to clearance or approval after the performance characteristics have already been validated. Zymo Research is actively working with the FDA to have an EUA approved for a SARS-CoV-2 detection test with its corresponding workflow. This workflow includes DNA/RNA Shield Collection Devices, Quick-DNA/RNA Viral MagBead Kit (R2140), and the Quick-SARS-CoV-2 rRT-PCR Test Kit.
Health organizations have validated Zymo Research’s sample collection and viral extraction kits in their workflows for clinical specimen collection and processing. For the adoption of Zymo products into EUA workflows, further validation on the product’s performance are required.
