Milenia HybriDetect allows point-of-care test development for anyone

With Milenia HybriDetect a point-of-care test strip is available, serving users as a platform for own test developments, regardless whether these are immunoassays or molecular biology detection systems

7 important reasons why you should use Milenia HybriDetect

1. Multiple test development applications

You can use Milenia HybriDetect for point-of-care test development projects in many different applications. The product is frequently used for the devlopment of molecular biology methods. So far the detection of products derived from amplification methods, including RPA, LAMP and PCR, are frequently described. However, molecular biology detection methods without an amplification step are also possible to develop with Milenia HybriDetect. One example is the detection of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) via a sandwich hybridization. The development of immunoassays is also possible with HybriDetect. Whether this is a sandwichimmunoassay or a competitive test, no problem at all with Milenia HybriDetect!

2. Speed

After applying the sample to the Milenia HybriDetect test strip highly positive samples can be identified within seconds. Usually results can be reported within 5 – 30 minutes, depending on the application of the product.

3. Sensitivity

Milenia HybriDetect is 100 – 1.000 x more sensitive than an agarose gel when molecular biology products are detected. Agarose gels are the basic method used by researchers all over the world for the detection of molecular biology products.

4. Cost effectiveness

The results of Milenia HybriDetect are visible to the naked eye. Therfore no equipment is necessary to report results. After performing the tests users can fix the HybriDetect strips on a report sheet, that can be stored in a binder or scanned or an image can be taken.

5. Point-of-need applications

Due to simple handling, interpretation and documentation, the use of Milenia HybriDetect is not bound to a laboratory and can therefore be used at any place, whether this is a field, a pond or any other location!

6. Frequently cited in the scientific

Since the release of HybriDetect to the market in 2003 the product has been used by many researchers and is cited in a series of high quality publications.

7. Reliable quality, available at any time

Milenia HybriDetect is manufactured by Milenia Biotec GmbH, Gießen, Germany under the rules of a certified quality management system (EN ISO 13485:2016). The test strips are an integral component of a number of diagnostic kits manufactured by Milenia Biotec GmbH and other partners from the diagnostic industry. Up to now more than 3.000.000 HybriDetect test strips have been manufactured. The high demand for HybriDetect allows Milenia Biotec to keep adequate levels of kits in inventory. Even after receipt of big volume orders kits can be shipped the same day from stock. Milenia Biotec delivers daily and worldwide.

How to perform HybriDetect - Detection of PCR/LAMP/RPA-Amplicons

HybriDetect – Frequently asked questions

A:  Yes, but initially negative strips may show a faint band after prolonged time, while positive bands will not disappear! We recommend to take an image of the strip shortly after the incubation time is over.

A: HybriDetect allows the detection of 1 target on the strip, while HybriDetect 2T allows the detection of 2 targets on the same strip.

A: This depends on the size of the amplicon. The shorter the amplicon is, the lower is the sensitivity of the agarose gel. If the amplicon is 100 bases long HybriDetect could possibly be 1.000 fold more sensitive compared to the agarose gel.

A: Yes, but initially negative strips may show a faint band after prolonged time, while positive bands will not disappear! We recommend to take an image of the strip shortly after the incubation time is over.

A: No, kits can be shipped at ambient temperatures, but should be stored at 2 – 8°C after receipt.

A: Yes, the kits will still perform well. We have made stability tests and could demonstrate that the kits still perform well after storing them for 100 days at 37°C.

A:  The sum of the volume of the sample and the buffer should not exceed 100 µl.

A: This phenomenon is due to the formation of primer dimers. In this event biotinylated and FITC-labeled primers bind to each other and form dimers resulting in false positive results. You need to redesign your primers in order to prevent primer dimerization.

A: The shelf life of the kits from the time of production is 24 months. Milenia Biotec is manufacturing fresh lots twice a year, meaning that our customers usually get kits with a remaining shelf life of not less than 12 months.

A: Yes, in case the concentration of labeled primers or probes is too high, this may lead to a decreased sensitivity of the test. In this case primer or probe concentration need to be reduced. Furthermore, components of the sample or the sample buffer, including SDS, DTT or urea may have a negative impact on the performance of the test. In this case the sample can be diluted in order to „dilute the effect out“. However this approach will result in a reduced sensitivity of the test. It is also possible to develop a modified assay buffer to reduce the interferences.

A: Yes, we demonstrated that HybriDetect (MGHD 1) still performs well at temperatures up to 75°C and HybriDetect 2T at temperatures up to 65°C.
